Safe Housing
NIVPC provides 30 day emergency housing to women and children in imminent danger. Our shelter is a 4 BD/3BA house with a large family area, back yard, and full kitchen. The shelter can accommodate up to 21 people. In order to plan for a future free from violence, NIVPC provides food, day to day living essentials, counseling and support groups, and provides resources for housing assistance, life skills and parenting courses, childcare, employment and medical aid.

Safe Haven 4 Pets is specifically for our shelter clients. Statistics indicate that in many cases of domestic violence, abuse to animals was present in the home/abuser. Shelter for pets eliminates a barrier for fleeing victims by allowing them to bring pets with them to a safe shelter.

Safe Haven 4 Pets is available through a partnership formed between the North Idaho Violence Prevention Center (NIVPC) and the Kootenai Humane Society.

Counseling & Support Services
Although everybody grieves and experiences emotional pain in very individual ways, when we come together to share our experiences, we see that there are many similarities too. Support groups can help you find strength and support in those similarities. Individual Sexual and/or Domestic Violence crisis counseling is available by appointment with trained certified counselors. Crisis counseling consists of approximately 6-8 sessions that are provided at no cost to the client.
